Wigginton tennis club open their new courts next month with a day full of events.

The courts will be officially opened at 1.30 on Sunday, April 16, by former Evening Press journalist and Wimbledon umpire Malcolm Huntington and his wife, Gina.

The ceremony will be preceded in the morning by a free junior training session at 11am, when coaches Danny Baker and Phil Langley will give youngsters their chance to learn the game as part of the Hot Shots Tennis Academy.

After the ceremony a round robin mixed doubles tournament will be held.

Juniors wishing to attend the training session should contact Phil Langley at 5, Greystone Court, Haxby, York YO32 3FS as soon as possible.

The club have set two enrolment dates for the coming season which are Friday, March 24 between 6.30 and 8pm and on Saturday, March 25 between 10am and 12 noon.

Forms can be completed on those dates or can be sent to the membership secretary, Les Almond at 30, York Road, Haxby.
