In times when their funding and numbers are at a dangerously low point and they are stretched to breaking point, I was horrified to see the police offering to turn a blind eye to wanted criminals at a funeral (Evening Press, March 17).

They have a duty to protect the public and to enforce the law.

How can they equate this with stopping turning a blind eye to motorists who drive in restricted traffic areas in the city centre (March 23)? Although I applaud the initiative, I feel the police should look to their priorities and possibly give the soon-to-be-redundant traffic wardens increased powers to sort out the city centre traffic problems.
