A new lottery game for the North of England has been launched in York newsagents this week, promising to make your day rather than change your life.

The Daily Number, which is independent of the National Lottery and run by Inter Lotto, boasts realistic odds and extra resources for UK charities.

For a 50p stake, players select three numbers from 0 to 9 in either exact or any order with the potential to win prizes of about £250 or £40 respectively.

The winning numbers will be broadcast nightly from April 3 on Yorkshire and Granada TV at 11.15pm and published on Teletext page 356.

Peter Dow, marketing director, said: "It was a very good start. We got seventy per cent of the terminals up and running. There are always teething troubles with this sort of thing, but we did very well."

Twenty per cent of the lottery's sales revenue, plus all unclaimed prizes, will go to a selection of UK charities such as Defeating Deafness and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Rosie Barnes, chief executive of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: "There are thousands of children and young adults with Cystic Fibrosis who will benefit from the generosity of those playing Daily Number."
