Where have all York's buskers gone?

Busker auditions for the Freeport designer outlet village, at Castleford, scheduled to take place in York on Saturday have been postponed due to a lack of interest.

The outlet say that unless there is more response for the rescheduled talent search on April 8, they will take them to some other part of Yorkshire.

They are looking for buskers of all kinds to perform under its big tents for a fee plus all the money they can earn from passers-by.

Derek Ball, Freeport spokesman said: "To find buskers for our shopping villages elsewhere in England and Scotland we have always attracted a large number of enthusiastic musicians, magicians, dancers, fire-eaters, clowns and such like. In Leeds we flushed out enough buskers to put on a complete variety show and in Stoke-on-Trent and Fleetwood we had people queuing up to take part. But only three acts have registered for the coming auditions in York.

"It seems that either York has no busking talent or that street entertainers here are simply not interested in earning good money on what is one of the best pitches in the land."

Anyone interested in taking part in the York audition on April 8 should telephone Freeport on 01977 520153.
