The good times continued to roll today for upwardly mobile York City.

Left-back Peter Hawkins' initial one-month loan deal from Wimbledon was finally extended until the end of the season.

The Dons had delayed agreeing to Hawkin's continued residence at Bootham Crescent due to injury problems at Selhurst Park.

Another boost for the Minstermen, riding a crest of a wave after three successive wins, saw midfield schemer Scott Jordan was set to make his first appearance in a City shirt for more than a month in today's reserve encounter at Walsall.

Jordan's return, after being out for four weeks following taking a knee in the back in the 0-0 stalemate with Exeter, means York have only one long-term injured absentee in Wayne Hall.

Today's match also provided defensive linchpin Chris Fairclough a timely opportunity to boost his match fitness.

Dolan has been reluctant to rush Fairclough back into action after being out since December with knee ligament damage.

The seasoned defender has featured in just one reserve match since making his comeback and has been an unused substitute for the first team.

But with Peter Swan suspended for Saturday's trip to Southend, Fairclough's availability could prove invaluable.

Meanwhile, York's relegation-threatened rivals Carlisle United climbed to third from bottom of the Third Division with an unexpected 2-0 victory over title challengers Swansea City last night.

The Cumbrian hosts' win puts the pressure back on bottom club Chester and Kevin Ratcliffe's Shrewsbury, who slipped to just one off the foot of the Football League.

Goals either side of half-time from Damon Searle and Steve Halliday, who scored against the Minstermen earlier this month, sealed the win.

NCEL side Selby Town have signed Andrew Battersby from premier division rivals Maltby Main, while teenage striker Gary Wigglesworth has joined the Tadcaster Albion set-up from Ossett Albion.
