The Woods of Tadcaster deserve support in their stance against prejudice. They are part of a minority who are routinely discriminated against not for the colour of their skin but the colour of their hair.
Gingerism remains rife. Every child who has a shock of red hair is a target in the playground. And now even adults who should know better are openly indulging their prejudice: Frank Dobson's remark about avoiding redheads only emphasised his ignorance.
Admittedly some of Britain's flame-haired celebrities - Chris Evans, the Duchess of York - do not help the cause. That makes it more important for people like the Woods to stand up and declare: we're proud to be ginger.
