Readers letter
I haven't seen the cruel attacks on affordable new homes that Neville Bann complains of in his weekly letters. Perhaps he could be given space in the paper to put his case properly.
My own objections to many of these developments are that they are unsightly, unimaginative, and unnecessary. Too often they are nasty little dolls' houses built of breeze-blocks with plastic doors and windows. They are not cheap to buy, but are made artificially cheap to move into, and must be very difficult to resell.
Are there really great numbers of single households - partners who have run off with nobody else? - who want these poky houses, rather than apartments near the centre of the city? And do teachers, nurses and policemen really choose to live in such mean dwellings?
