Nestl Rowntrees Ladies proved too strong for old rivals Clifton and won 6-3 in Ladies' division one of the York Badminton League.

Helen Shepherd and Shelley Tattersall were the pick of the Rowntrees pairs with three wins for 99-55 including a 15-4 9-15 15-12 over Clifton's top pair of Shelagh Barker and Gerry Screeton.

Nestl Ladies made it a good week for the club after a 7-2 away win over Huntington.

The battle of the top clubs in men's division one saw the Railway Institute edge a 5-4 win at the Campus Sports Centre. Paul Turner and Jonathan May's 13 and eight over Duncan Bosworth and Berndt Schwartz proved decisive as Turner and May went on to take all three for the return of 90-47.

Huntington scored a last rubber 5-4 win over Millthorpe in Men's division two.

Keith Dixon and Sam Watson took three Millthorpe wins for 90-42, but Mike Ross and Paul Moisley kept their nerve to beat Phil Gilbert and Keith Burrows in three sets to seal the win bonus points for Huntington.

Riverside kept up their challenge in Men's three after a 6-3 away win over RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' despite being a pairing short.

Ian McKinlay and Jeremy Bowman were the pick of the Riverside team with three straight wins for a return of 90-40.

University Students 'A' put in a good home display to beat Drax 'A' 8-1 in Mixed Division One.

Justin Gerard and Jeanette Waterson put in an excellent Student display for an aces total of 100-60 including a 17-16 8-15 15-3 over Phil Brunyard and Julie Smythe who took the Drax consolation after a 15-7 10-15 15-11 over Russell Bins and Heather Turner.

Sheriff Hutton lost their unbeaten home record in Mixed Three when they entertained RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' and lost 4-5.

Jo Ward and Dave Grieve took three home wins for a total of 99-48 but Mike Corley and Marlene Woodward sealed the Institute win with a 12 and six over John Colley and Ann Fairclough.

The Institute Tuesday/Thursday 'B' team made it a good week for the club after a 6-3 away win over Tadcaster 86 'B'.

The best performance, however, came from Alan Ward and Margaret Gardiner who took all three Tadcaster wins for 103-53.

Ian and Judith Eaton top scored with three straight wins for 99-32, including a four and five over Andy Hatfield and Gill Southill, who took the consolation point for the Jubilee club.

Selby Jubilee 'B' played well to score a 5-4 away win over Drax 'E' in Mixed Six.

Roy Canon and Sandra Royal put in an excellent display for Jubilee with three wins for 106-64 including the match winning ninth in which they beat Sean Firth and Linda Johnson 15-7 14-17 15-7.
