The Labour Party centenary celebrations have illustrated what the party wants to propagate at the start of its second century. What is revealing is what is not highlighted.

Creating quality housing for all has traditionally been a rallying cry of the Labour Party during the 20th century. However, the centenary celebrations have strangely omitted this part of Labour's history.

Housing is still a major problem where there will be increased demands for housing, particularly from single households.

And housing is still a basic need that is not being properly met. Instead there is now vociferous opposition to new housing from many quarters - whereas in the past political parties like Labour would be leading the struggle for better and new housing. Why are they not doing that so vigorously today?
