Anita Adams, licensee of the Gold Slipper, in Goodramgate, York, prepares to present St Leonard's Hospice finance and fundraising manager, Karen Russell, with money raised through the sale of Millennium certificates

A special record of where revellers were when they saw in the New Millennium has given a boost to the St Leonard's Hospice Millennium Appeal.

Regulars at the Golden Slipper pub, in Goodramgate, York, and visitors from as far away as Texas and Australia, know exactly where they were when the clock struck midnight, thanks to special certificates to mark the moment.

Publican Anita Adams sold the certificates, complete with details of her customers' whereabouts at the Millennium moment, for £1 each in aid of our Hospice 2000 Appeal.

She presented £115 raised by the sale to St Leonard's finance and fundraising manager Karen Russell.

Most of those who bought this unique souvenir had either been in York Minster or the Golden Slipper at midnight.

"It was a wonderful time, and everyone was delighted to have the chance to purchase a special memento of the occasion," said Anita.

"It was an idea suggested by the Federation of Licensed Victuallers, and we believe that the Golden Slipper was the only pub in the area to take it up. We are delighted to have raised £115 for St Leonard's Hospice."

Karen Russell said: "This is another golden idea from the Golden Slipper, where everyone is always very supportive of the work of St Leonard's. The certificates will be valued highly in years to come - and so will the contribution they have made to our Millennium Appeal."
