May I, through your paper, express my sincere thanks to all those people who have given support to retaining the number plate DN 1 for the city of York?
My late brother-in-law, Mr Cyril Myton, who gave the number plate to the city, would have been so pleased of this support from the citizens of York.

...Referring to the item in Thursday's Evening Press concerning the decision not to sell off the Lord Mayor's number plate in the face of overwhelming public opinion, council leader Rod Hills states there has been a clear expression that people do not think it is a good idea and we will abide by that and not accept the proposal.
I trust that the council will acknowledge the force of public opinion regarding the mooted closure of the Barbican and Yearsley swimming pools and reject that proposal also!
