A little known fact is that a new fire station is proposed to be built next year near the Huntington/Earswick roundabout on the ring road. The reason for this is apparently greater fire cover is required in the North York area.
Because of continuing cash cut backs, it is proposed to remove one of the fire engines from Clifford Street in the heart of York to the new fire station.
This does not increase fire cover. However, it may decrease fire cover for the city centre where most fire calls occur.
The Fire Service and the City of York Council are supposed to be committed to best practice/value - aren't they?
