Evening Press Reader's Letter
I am not surprised at the concern of the city council about the smells coming from the sewage works next to the new Park and Ride site at Rawcliffe.
I, along with many local residents, did point out the folly of putting the park and ride site next to the works. For the city council to admit, only a matter of weeks before it opens, that there was a problem with the smells for the sewage works beggars belief.
If they could have accepted what local residents had told them at the planning stage, they might have considered putting it somewhere which would not require a gas mask on a bad day. I know that the sewage works do try to keep the smells down but if us residents on the other side of the A19 can smell them, users of the park and ride will have the delightful essence of sewage as their first smell when they arrive in York. Hardly a great advert for our beautiful city.
