Evening Press Reader's Letter
As far as I know it has not been proven that nv.CJD is caused by eating BSE-infected beef or that BSE was caused by cattle being fed on meat and bonemeal.
Most countries fed meat and bonemeal to cattle and some probably still do so why haven't they had an epidemic of BSE?
The overwhelming scientific evidence now says British beef is safe - and probably always was - and local authorities should put British beef back on the menu of schools.
To get things in perspective, does Chris Clayton let his children cross the road or ride in a car or sit in a cigarette smoke filled room etc? From the moment we are born we are exposed to risk but the fact remains that the average lifespan is increasing all the time.
