Controversial plans to move queuing traffic and to give buses priority on a York road are being reconsidered.
The scheme, to place extra sets of traffic lights along Shipton Road and Bootham, install bus priority lanes and ban right turns on to Bootham from Gillygate has created massive public opposition in recent weeks.
Today councillors decided to look again at proposals for bus priority lanes between Loweswater Road and Rawcliffe Lane.
They also decided to drop the idea of banning right-turns at Gillygate on to Bootham in the next stage of the consultation.
A new idea that will be discussed as consultations continue will be the idea of school pupils using the Rawcliffe Bar Park and Ride site to tackle the volume of school traffic.
Councillors agreed that they should carry on with their consultations as they could not leave the situation as it was.
They agreed they had to look at ways in which buses could move more quickly down the road as the number of vehicles using it was steadily increasing.
More than 5,000 households in the area were leafleted by the City of York Council during consultation so far to discover residents opinions on the scheme.
