With reference to the letter from Keith Smith (Evening Press, January 12), I am fully aware that money for the Millennium celebrations would have come from the public purse.
I am also aware that other authorities made provision for this. If City of York Council did not then it is a case of bad management. If they are not aware that tourism is the biggest earner for the city and the local economy then they should not be in office, or maybe take heed of the adage: "You have to speculate to accumulate."
