It is most unsatisfactory that three North Yorkshire policemen remain suspended more than two months after learning they would not be prosecuted over allegations of malpractice.
The Crown Prosecution Service indicated in November it would not proceed with court action. It should be apparent by now whether or not there is enough evidence for the force to take internal disciplinary action against the men. If there is not, the officers should be reinstated immediately.
Keeping them suspended on full pay for so long is not fair to the officers and their families; to the taxpayer; or to their colleagues who are struggling to cope with a heavy workload. We hope this matter can now be concluded quickly.
