Residents who were directly involved in the fire on Rawcliffe Lane have nothing but praise and admiration for the fire service, police, paramedics, Transco, WRVS and staff of Canon Lee school.
Compensation is the last thing on the majority of residents' minds. All we feel is immense relief that no one was injured or killed and the damage was well controlled by the fire service. That in itself is a miracle.
Never mind compensation, everybody should be grateful there wasn't a disaster here and spare a thought for the workmen who worked through terrible conditions to restore our gas supply. Then they personally turned on our mains and checked appliances. I think we owe everyone a very big thank you.
