HATS off to a modular miracle: David Jupp, of Huntington building manufacturers Yorkon, left, with Michael Kerin, chief executive of Bexley and Greenwich health authority
Around £3 million worth of components in a new health centre in Woolwich will be forever York.
Yorkon, the company which is part of the Portakabin group in Huntington has delivered 66 precision-engineered steel-framed modules complete with heating, plumbing, glazing and partitioning to the site, craning them into position in just a few days.
The three-storey building for Bexley and Greenwich Health Authority, one storey of which is being provided by Yorkon, will be a landmark on a Thames site acquired by the NHS from Greenwich Council.
It will eventually accommodate a four-GP practice, treating around 9,000 patients a year. A community mental health team will also be located there.
The Yorkon modular methods will whittle time on the site from around 15 months to just nine.
