Welburn trainer Bob Woodhouse, who notched the biggest success of his training career in extraordinary circumstances at Newcastle on Saturday, can keep the momentum going at Carlisle tomorrow by scoring with Mr Mahdlo.
Woodhouse could hardly believe his eyes on Saturday when Donnybrook emerged as the only one of the seven runners to put in a clear round in the £25,000 Dipper Novices' Chase.
Left with the race on a plate when Robbo, his sole remaining rival, attempted to refuse at the final fence and unseated Alan Dempsey, Donnybrook coasted home under Bryan Harding to record a 20-1 success. Robbo was remounted to claim second prize, a distance behind the winner.
It was Mary Reveley, trainer of Robbo, who had denied Mr Mahdlo of a win at Catterick recently. Woodhouse's promising gelding finished a good second to Reveley's Woodfield Gale, with the remainder of the field well beaten off.
A horse overdue a win over fences, Mr Mahdlo is napped to get off the mark in the Hadrians Wall Novices' Chase tomorrow - without needing all of his rivals to depart on the way round!
Jonjo O'Neill has his horses in fine form, and the Penrith trainer can make his presence felt at his local track.
Hopeful Lord, an out-and-out stayer, gives O'Neill a fine chance of capturing the three-and-a-half miles Pioneer Foods Millennium Handicap Chase, while the lightly-weighted Buzz has likewise strong claims in the Tote Exacta Coming Soon Showcase Handicap Hurdle.
Buzz has yet to get off the mark over timber, but he has shown plenty of promise and he can overcome his relative inexperience under Adrian Maguire.
Lord Of The Sky got off the mark over timber at Ayr recently and Len Lungo's former smart point-to-pointer, has an excellent chance of producing an encore in the Tote Top Of The North Novices' Hurdle.
Conceding weight all round should not inconvenience Lord Of The Sky, who looks a horse with a bright future, especially when his attentions are eventually turned to fences.
Lungo also has good prospects with the in-form Birkdale, who bids for a hat-trick in the Robert Elliot 80th Birthday Handicap Chase.
Although a faller on his latest start, Errand Boy remains a horse with plenty of scope. Sue Smith's gelding does not look badly treated at the weights in the Brampton Handicap Hurdle.
At Folkestone, the remarkable Tony McCoy can keep his fans happy by winning on Break The Rules (3.00), runner-up in his last four races, and Enrique (4.00).
McCoy is just the man to get Break The Rules to put his best foot forward, the champion jockey having been in unbeatable form at Ascot on Saturday when he rode three winners, including Nordance Prince in the big race.
