Corrina Steele, the 14-year-old York schoolgirl missing for a week, was today safe and well at home.
The Tadcaster Grammar School pupil was traced by police to a bedsit in Leeds following information passed to police officers by a friend.
"We're relieved to say the least, just so pleased she's alive and well," said stepfather James Laycock, of Keble Park North, Bishopthorpe.
He said the family was now looking to get on with their lives after the drama and anguish of six days of not knowing where or how Corrina, the sixth of seven children, was.
And Mr Laycock heaped praise on the police.
"The police have been out of this world," he said.
"They have done wonders, and we would like to thank them for their efforts."
Mr Laycock said the family had turned detective and had also managed to trace Corrina to Leeds, but that officers had picked her up by that time.
