I can only describe the councillors of York as the Scrooges of Britain after the announcement that there would be no civic festivities for the Millennium.

This coming from a council that is supposedly running one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country. Don't they realise the feedback from the tourists in York on the Millennium evening will only do harm to the city's biggest industry - tourism? There wasn't a single extra piece of tinsel, no baubles, no lights, no street entertainment at all. The rest of Britain put us to shame, even the small parish councils over most of the country made an effort to celebrate.

Does this once more show the contempt that the council has for the citizens of York? If they ran a company like this I am sure that they would all be asked to resign by the shareholders.

So why don't they do the honourable thing and resign their posts and let the citizens run the city according to the wishes of the citizens?
