Some children saw the dawn of the new millennium waiting to be found adoptive parents. Children in family groups of two and three of pre-school and early school age, children over six years old and babies with Down's Syndrome.
Catholic Care, an adoption agency which accepts applications from people of any or no religion, has developed a fast-track approach for anyone inquiring about adoption.
It is the intention to respond quickly, first with a brief telephone discussion, then with a detailed information pack, followed by a meeting with those who would like to find out more. A spokesperson said it was the hope that as the year progressed some of the children who were waiting would join adoptive families.
