Head teacher Judith Rigg rings in the changes at Copmanthorpe Infant and Junior Schools today
Children who attended two village schools in Copmanthorpe before Christmas came back to just one today.
Copmanthorpe Infant and Junior Schools officially merged at the beginning of the month and are now Copmanthorpe Primary School, which has 340 pupils.
The merger has involved building work to build a corridor linking the two schools, and the new school now has new teaching facilities, staff room and foyer.
The building work took place during last term.
The former infants' head teacher, Judith Rigg, who was acting junior head teacher for all of last term, becomes the new primary head teacher.
Miss Rigg said: "It's great for the children of Copmanthorpe and it's an exciting and challenging opportunity."
The merger follows a similar merger of Hempland Junior and Infant Schools in Heworth last term and is set to be followed by a similar merger of Yearsley Grove Junior and Infant Schools, York, in the next school year.
