HOT-SHOT: Daniel Hattee, the 12-year-old Heworth Golf Club member who achieved a hole in one the first time he used his new set of clubs.
Young golfer Daniel Hattee had a sensational debut with a new set of clubs by holing in one.
The 12-year-old from Huntington achieved the feat at the 132 yards eighth hole at Heworth Golf Club where he is a member.
He had taken delivery of the new clubs only that morning and was playing on the course with his father.
As he could not see the hole from the tee Daniel did not realise until he got to the flag that the ball was in the cup. There was no mark on the green but one about six inches up the pin, indicating the ball had not bounced but hit the pin and dropped in.
He has been playing golf for about three years and has had a handicap (23) for a year.
Although his father has never had an ace, Daniel's grandfather John, retiring EGGS captain at Heworth, has achieved the feat.
Myers and Thompson on top

Brian Petrie led the men's winter stableford for two weeks in succession. Iona Buckle took the lead in the ladies event in the last competition before Christmas.
The club is closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
