The Daf vehicle, owned by City of York Council, had been sent to King's Staith, in York, and had to be manoeuvred back on to the road by another council vehicle when it got stuck yesterday.
A spokesman for City of York Council said: "Following the floods along King's Staith we were cleaning the mud and debris away using this water tanker.
"The driver was reversing and the vehicle just slipped over when he hit a mud patch with the front wheels going over the edge."
