The New owner of Elvington Airfield is expected to be announced before Christmas.
Dave Tappin, of the neighbouring Yorkshire Air Museum and organiser of the annual air show, said he been told a decision had been made.
But he said the details had not yet been revealed, and an announcement was expected in the next few days.
The Ministry of Defence, which owns the land, announced earlier this year that eight bids for the land were being considered.
A consortium from the Yorkshire Air Museum was among them.
Mr Tappin said today: "We've heard no details about who has bid, but we are expecting an announcement before Christmas.
"The museum's consortium is still in with a shout."
The Yorkshire Air Museum will not be affected by the sale.
The Ministry of Defence was unable to comment today.
