Bill Johnson made history by being declared the winner of Forest of Galtres Golf Club Seniors' (over 55s) last stableford competition of the Millennium.
In extremely blustery conditions, five members shot 37 points and, after a much count-back deliberation, Johnson was declared the winner.
Harold Pickup took second place, and with it the Aggregate Cup, while Gordon Hollingsworth was third.
Dave Fotheringham launched the longest drive, while Lou Brown hit a marvellous over the water shot on the club's signature hole, the sixth, which landed two feet from the flag in the nearest pin competition.
Phil Vernon retired as section captain and Joe Rimmer accepted the chain of office for the Millennium year.
After the competition the members had Christmas lunch at the club.
KILNWICK Percy Golf Club Seniors celebrated an excellent year's golf with their Christmas Cup strokeplay competition followed by dinner and prize giving.
Geoff Cooper came out top with a superb net 65. Brian Petrie was second, on net 67, and Ron Bradley third, on net 70.
Greens' chairman Baz Wilkinson won nearest the pin. Phil Hill had the longest drive.
The away day stableford competition, which runs throughout the year, saw Norman Turton claiming the shield, with last year's winner, Wilkinson, in second place.
Bob Myall, who died recently, was remembered by all as both a very amiable golf companion and friend. His victory at Beverley Golf Club and third place at Hornsea had earned him third place in the series. The trophy will be presented to his family.
Mal Johnson was thanked for all his work during the season, as were Ted Minors and Dave Forster.
The winter stableford series saw junior member Rob Yellowley take the lead on 34 points last week.
Played off threequarter handicap, David Kilford led the men and Carol Kilford the ladies.
The Turkey Trot was takes place tomorrow and entries are already mounting for the popular Christmas Texa Scramble, to be played on Tuesday, December 28, starting at 10am.
Knaresborough Golf Club committee decided some weeks ago that the Millennium was a good reason for publishing the club's first calendar.
It features 12 of club president Frank Newbold's most striking photographs of the course (including some that are already displayed in the framed set in the club house).
Limited stocks are now available from the bar or office (£5 each) and since delivery on December 9, they have been selling very fast.
There will be no repeat-print so early purchase is recommended, to avoid disappointment.
