Evening Press Reader
I read with interest Stephen Lewis's feature, Disabled To Book Nuisance Buildings, (December 3), and I would suggest the York Coalition of Disabled People should send a large yellow card to each member of the west area planning committee of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
In Pocklington Market Place there is a small restaurant.
The entrance is at the back from St Peter's Square. The restaurant is popular and offers very good value.
The disadvantage for the disabled is the stairs, although a staircase chair lift has been installed.
Planning permission was sought recently to turn the ground floor shop into a dining room.
The council refused to accept the application saying it was unacceptable because it would result in the loss of a retail unit in the main shopping frontage.
A similar application for 72 Market Place was approved, likewise another to change a former bank into a restaurant.
It would appear there is no interest in the disabled. Councillors should remember that disabled people have a vote.
