Reader Chris Clayton (Letters, Oct 6) asks if anyone else feels there is nobody worth voting for at elections.

I sympathise with his dilemma, but he shouldn't be surprised at New Labour 'selling out to big business'. It was obvious before the 1997 General Election that Tony Blair was not a socialist and was pro-capitalist.

Only three political parties - Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and New Labour - have any chance of governing. Each one claims to represent the 'middle ground'. In reality there is no such thing. Capitalism and socialism are opposites and are incompatible. If you are not a true socialist, then you are capitalistic - you can't believe in both!

I vote New Labour, but only because I think the party to be the lesser of the three evils! Yes, Mr Clayton, the situation is appalling.
