FLYING THE FLAG: York youngster Anthony Haskins prepares for his England Under-15 debut at Bootham Crescent tonight.

York could have two teenage hot-shots in action for England at Bootham Crescent tonight.

Chris Kamara, son of former York City defender Alan Kamara, has been drafted into the England Under-15s' squad to tackle Northern Ireland in the adidas Victory Shield duel at the York ground, kick-off 8.05pm.

Coincidentally Kamara, who attends Millthorpe School, is on the books of Nottingham Forest as is the other York representative in the England squad, Andy Haskins.

A defender like his father, Kamara is a replacement for Tadcaster Grammar School's Matthew Kilgallon, who is a defender-cum-midfielder on Leeds United's books.

It is understood Haskins, from Canon Lee School, will start the match, while Kamara may be on the bench. Enthused Haskins of his selection: "It's a fantastic opportunity to play for my national team on my home turf. "The Irish are a great side, so I'm sure all the York fans will turn out to give us a fantastic reception."

Whoever takes to the field, it will be a proud moment for Paul Clamp, who had both Kamara and Haskins under his wing when he was in charge of the all-conquering York junior side Hamilton Panthers.

From under-eight through to under-13, when the side eventually broke up, Clamp and his young guns won every honour going.

As well as Kamara and Haskins, other members of that side include brothers Lee and Craig Atkinson, who are both at Blackburn Rovers, and Luke Ibbotson and James Paxton, who are both at York City.

The most recent of the side to be snapped up by a professional club is Clamp's son, Jimmy, 15, a pupil at Lowfield School who has just signed two-year schoolboy forms with Nottingham Forest, where he will renew his links with Kamara and Haskins.

Said Clamp senior: "With the exception of Andy, who was from the Clifton area of York, they were all local Acomb lads and it's great to see them all doing so well.

"Looking back you don't realise how good they were and now they are on the fringe of something big."

And Clamp will be allowing himself a special treat tonight.

"The year Andy joined us, a year after we formed, I had presented at the end of season awards a large Churchill cigar and I told him I would only smoke it when he turned professional.

"But I think I'll smoke it tonight - there's no greater honour than to play for your country at whatever level and hopefully Jimmy will follow him."

The game, which is to be screened live on Sky Television, will cost £3 admission for adults, but free to children provided they are accompanied by an adult.
