Take a chance on 33-1 shot Hill Farm Blues in tomorrow's Tote Cesarewitch Handicap.

The famous marathon race is one of the star attractions of Champions Day at Newmarket, which is further highlighted by two Group 1 races and a brace of Group 2 contests.

Hill Farm Blues might seem an unlikely choice to win the second leg of the 'Autumn Double' but a closer look at her form suggests that she has a far better chance than might appear at first glance.

Forget her latest effort in a Listed race at Ascot, where she was out of her depth, and concentrate instead on her two previous outings.

At York in August, she finished seventh of 21 in the Tote Ebor Handicap, while at Doncaster's St Leger meeting the following month she was beaten only two lengths into fourth place by Knockholt after failing to find a clear run. On 5lb better terms she can turn the tables on Knockholt tomorrow.

Far Cry, the mount of Kevin Darley, has already won the Northumberland Plate and the Doncaster Cup and is a worthy favourite as he bids to complete an outstanding hat-trick of major prizes.

Etterby Park and Spunkie, last year's second and third, together with Tim Easterby's Ayr winner Rum Pointer and Silent Warning, who has been laid out for this race, are among others to warrant attention in what will be a fascinating race.

But my fingers are crossed for a turn-up - with Hill Farm Blues sportingly awarded the Nap vote to pop-up at big odds for trainer Mark Brisbourne and lightweight female apprentice Iona Wands.

Distant Music, who looked top-drawer material when running away with the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month, can confirm his status by winning the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes for trainer Barry Hills and his jockey-son Michael.

In the Group 1 Champions Stakes, last year's winner Alborada is fancied to complete a notable double. Although she has had only one run this season - nearly three month ago - she will have been primed for this big target by astute trainer Sir Mark Prescott.

Also worth noting at Newmarket is Lend A Hand, who can add the Group 2 Champions' Gallery Challenge Stakes to his recent win in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.

Aunty Rose, a course and distance winner who finished a creditable third in the May Hill at Doncaster, should made a bold bid in the Group 2 Owen Brown Rockfel Stakes, while it will be no shock to see prolific winner Family Man clinch the NGK Sparks Plugs Handicap.

At Catterick, Ambitious will be hard to peg back in the Emerald Isle Handicap.

Ken Ivory's charge has won her last two races, most recently at York where she came out on top in a competitive handicap. A hat-trick looks on the cards.

Jailhouse Rocket (2.10), unplaced in the Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar last time, is worth another chance in the opener, while the lightly-raced Fahan (2.45) is fancied to show improved form in the nursery.
