Emerging Market, without a win for more than three years, can end the drought tomorrow on Knavesmire by landing the feature race.

The twelfth running of the Lawrence Batley Rated Handicap over six furlongs is the target for John Dunlop's sprinter, who will have the services of Kevin Darley.

The Sheriff Hutton jockey was also in the saddle when Emerging Market gained his last success, in the 1996 Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot.

Now a seven-year-old, Emerging Market has been running well in defeat this season, a fact demonstrated by his latest effort on this course a fortnight ago when he finished third to Zuhair, beaten less than two lengths.

A reproduction of that form tomorrow could well enable Emerging Market to win.

The Batleys Cash & Carry Handicap looks an ideal opportunity for Nichol Fifty. This Mark Tompkins trained gelding has finished second on his last two starts, most recently at Sandown where he was beaten a length and a half by Male-Ana-Mou over tomorrow's distance.

Frankie Dettori has the mount tomorrow and can reward his Knavesmire supporters with a victory.

Aldwark Manor, the hotel, golf and country club at Aldwark near Alne, sponsors for the first time at York with the Aldwark Manor Hotel Short Breaks Maiden Auction Stakes.

I go for Kaiapoi, who shaped with promise on his debut when fifth at Haydock earlier this month. Pat Eddery has been booked for the Reg Hollinshead youngster, which looks a hint in itself.

Eddery can also score on Nap selection Indium in the Rufforth Handicap. Overdue a win after creditable efforts in defeat, Indium was noted staying on strongly to finish sixth to Naviasky in a big field at Leicester last time.

A horse who comes from off the pace, he will need plenty of luck to get a clear run tomorrow but deservfes respect in the hands of the 11-times champion jockey.

Kieren Fallon, the reigning champion, could win the Levy Board Claiming Stakes on Quiet Millfit and the Ben Johnson Go Racing in Yorkshire Maiden Stakes on Dark Trojan.

At Brighton, the Mick Channon trained Queen Of The May can use her course experience to good effect in the Douglas J Wood Nursery Handicap.
