I thank those members of the public who were present in the Help the Aged shop in Goodramgate on Tuesday who showed sympathy and concern when I discovered I had been robbed while working at the till in the morning.
One woman customer, a lawyer, gave me useful advice, which I acted upon.
My handbag - minus the cash and keys - was returned to me in the afternoon by a council workman who found it in the precincts of St Cuthbert's Church in Peasholme Green. My locks had to be changed at considerable expense.
It would appear that nothing is sacrosanct these days.
