Scarborough boss Colin Addison has made his first signing of the summer.
He has brought in Marcus Jones, 24, a midfield player, on a free transfer from Telford.
Addison is refusing to rush the appointment of a player-coach as the Seasiders prepare for life in the Nationwide Conference.
As reported in yesterday's Evening Press, former Nottingham Forest, Preston and Swansea midfielder Paul Raynor has been in talks with Addison about the role.
The vastly experienced 33-year-old midfielder was a key member of the Kettering Town side which finished second in the Conference last season, just missing out on promotion to the Football League.
But Addison, while confirming he has held talks with Sheffield-based Raynor, who played around 500 games in the League, said he had yet to make the player a formal offer.
"I still have one or two other people I wish to see and it may be that Peter Morris (the Kettering Town boss) will offer Paul another year to play.
"But he is anxious to take on a coaching role and we will just have to see how things develop. There will be no decision made immediately."
Addison confirmed midfield dynamo Ben Worrall, who joined Boro in 1996 after starting his career with his home town club, Swindon Town, has left the club after turning down the offer of a new contract.
"He is anxious to stay in the League and so has been released," said Addison, who revealed Boro were looking to sign four or five new players before the start of the season.
Tentative inquiries have been held with Darlington over the availability of midfielder Steve Gaughan and left-back Mark Barnard.
Barnard has been released while Gaughan has one-year left on his contract to run at Feethams but is not expected to feature in the first team.
Gaughan was linked with a move to the McCain Stadium last season but the deal fell through.
