It was a pleasure to read Mr McAndrews' letter in the Evening Press about the landscaping on Foss Islands Road, recently completed by the City of York Council (May 29).
It is nice to know, also, that suggestions made by the York Natural Environment Trust (January 27, 1998) are being acted upon.
When the council announced it was developing its former Foss Island depot site, we suggested this would be an appropriate time and opportunity to open up a 'green' link for pedestrians from the city centre to the St Nicholas' Field Urban Nature Park, incorporating a footbridge over Foss Islands Road with associated landscaping throughout. We hope the recent landscaping is just the first step, for which the council is to be congratulated, with further work culminating in the completion of a pleasant and peaceful route through to what was formerly known as St Nicholas' tip, now regenerated as a wildlife haven.
