Congratulations to Colin Fallows, Mark Newby and the team that broke the British land speed record at Elvington yesterday.
They had to be quick to dodge the thunderstorms.
Their achievement is part of a long-standing tradition of British dare-devilry.
Such exploits test the limits of both man and machine, and bring a dash of colour to a grey North Yorkshire day.
The team were back on the runway again today, determined to go faster still. They were ready to make an assault on the standing start record.
We wish them the best of luck.
They are certainly in the right place: Elvington is now the fastest place on British earth.
