A murderer sentenced to life imprisonment by York Crown Court has been found dead close to the body of a strangled woman.

David Simmonds was discovered in his fume filled car hours after police found the body of Jan Richards, 39, in Lincoln on Saturday.

Police have confirmed they are not looking for anybody else in connection with Mrs Richards' death.

Simmonds, formerly of Swinemoor Lane, Beverley, had moved to Lincoln under the supervision of the probation service after his release from prison.

He had been convicted ten years ago for killing his wife, Gillian, in a fit of jealousy after she walked out on their marriage of 13 years.

Simmonds drugged her and drowned her in a bath after she revealed she had slept with her ex- husband.

Simmonds was found unconscious beside the exhaust pipe of his car hours afterwards.

It is thought Mrs Richards had been aware of his conviction.Graham Nichols, assistant chief probation officer in Lincolnshire, said: "The Lincolnshire probation service confirm that a man named by police in relation to the death of Mrs Richards was under the supervision of this service following his release from a sentence of life imprisonment.

"Probation service staff have been co-operating with police in their investigation and a report into the circumstances of these tragic events will be prepared for the Home Secretary."
