Wigginton secured their first win in division four of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League against Fulford.
It was good to see Ann Mead playing again for Wigginton and with her partner Ann Vinters she won 21 games. Lynn Dent and Vi Butler top scored with 25 games but were held 6-6 by Pam Mason and Pat Brisbane, the Fulford third string, as Wigginton ran out winners 63-45.
Sheriff Hutton were given a close match against Poppleton where No 1s Pat Keller and Chris Moss had three good wins, especially the 10-2 in the first round as Poppleton took a good lead 24-12. But Pauline and Jill Hodges responded with a 12-0 in the second round, and Hull and Hodges along with team mates Sandra Meads and Ellie Batty both won 9-3 in the last round to give Sheriff Hutton a 56-52 victory.
Riccall, top of the division with four wins, had little trouble beating Dunnington 72-36. Sarah Clay and Dorianne Latimer had three straight wins.
Strensall and Knaresborough's match finished 58-50 with six of the rubbers ending 6-6 or 5-7. The other three rubbers finished 9-3, two in favour of Strensall and the other to Knaresborough as Strensall took two league points.
Poppleton had two goods wins in division one, beating Bishopthrope 63-45. Kath Halliday and Elizabeth Cracknell had three good wins 8-4 7-5 9-3, and in Poppleton's other victory by the same score they beat the leaders Appleton Roebuck. Rosie Cantrell and Sue Peach and Julie Peart and Sue Paver both finished winning 25 games each.
Dunnington were too strong for Selby who are finding it hard since promotion last season. Nicola Loten and Sheelagh Stephenson only dropped three games as they collected 33 games in a 81-27 victory.Appleton Roebuck beat York 59-49 with a good all-round team effort wins 7-5 9-3 9-3.
Fulford visited Knaresborough who look to have a good chance of winning division one for the first time, but the visitors settled down with an even first round, each couple ending up 7-5. The second round produced a convincing win 10-2 to Fulford's Jackie Heels and Julie Reilly and team-mates Jill McCreedy and Anna Baker had a 8-4 win. But in the final round Janice McMillan and Anne Henderson won 7-5 and Margaret Sykes and Anne Marie Bowler had a 8-4 win. But Dominique Morriseey and Linda Irving had a tough 7-5 victory to help Fulford win 56-52.
Wheldrake stayed top of division two beating Tollerton 61-47, but couldn't beat Wendy Stirk and Sandra Jennings. Helen Hadfield and Denise Nearey top scored with 23 games to help Wheldrake stay top with one point more than Cawood who lost to York. With seven rubbers being won by York it moves York only one point behind Cawood and two behind the leaders.
New Earswick beat Tadcaster 71-37. Jenny Rossington and Anne Jackson were top scorers the only couple with three straight wins.Strensall found Castlegarth in a rampant mood with four double figured victories 12-0 11-1 and two of 10-2 but couldn't stop Sue Jacklyn and Dot Mackintosh winning 29 games and Marise Richfield and Dawn Steele winning 28 games as they ran out winners 79-29.
Bubwith are the only team unbeaten in division three. They beat neighbours Cliffe 76-32. Jane Thompson and Jill Schofield had a 12-0 as they recorded three good wins.
Copmanthorpe and Wistow had a close match, Wistow leading going into the last round 39-33. Annette Keeler and Jenny Davis came home with a 8-4 win Chris Copley and Karen Hornby finished with a 9-3 win and Kath Pickard and Anne Terry had 6-6 draw against Jill Marsden and Pam Huggins to give Copmanthorpe a 56-52 win.
