Another Yorkshire stereotype is smashed. Southerners will be surprised to learn that tripe and onions are not our staple dish and that we even turn up our noses at kippers.
Charity ActionAid's survey of our eating habits discovered that we are somewhat fussy about our diet.
But if tripe has fallen out of favour, that is only because our palates are now titillated by the world cuisine on our doorstep. In North Yorkshire alone, the diner can choose from every style of food from Greek to Mexican, Indian to Thai. Mind you, we still have a taste for the traditional, as our favourite dish, steak followed by strawberries, confirms.
