TOURISM in York looks set for a boost following the announcement of new train services to the city.
From tomorrow, rail firm Midland Mainline will be running a weekend service from London St Pancras through the East Midlands to York.
The service comes as part of the company's launch of 17 brand new Turbostar trains which feature disabled access, special disabled areas with staff helpers, and non-reservable places for cycles.
Spokesman Jane Bettany said: "York certainly is a place that people want to visit.
A recent survey has shown it is one of the most popular tourist destinations and we want to take people there."
On Saturdays the service departs from London and calls at Leicester before arriving in York.
Visitors can enjoy the sights of the city before heading back to the station for a return journey the same day.
On Sundays the service starts in Leicester and heads for York, with a return journey terminating in London.
