UNEARTHED by former player Edward Storey is this photograph of the way football was way before the Second World War.
Pictured are the York Railway Institute FC team of 1933 which won the Minor League Cup and then graduated to senior football to lift the then York Charity Shield and the Senior Cup.
Storey, seen here second from left in the front row, was an inside-left for the RI team between 1933 and 1939 when War broke out.
Among the personalities in the RI line-up are Ronnie Fogg, who was a Yorkshire Schoolboy player and M Murphy - pictured in the back row with a towel over his shoulder - who was the trainer of York City when the club was based at Fulfordgate.
But there is one name missing. The dapper chap to the left of Mr Murphy is unknown. Can anyone out there provide the answer?
Back row, from left, F Patterson, G Stamford, F Holden, D Brown, C Herridge, S Barker, J Smith, E Berriman, H Sturdy, W Cooper, ??????, M Murphy, C Deighton; front row - H Brazier, E Storey, R Fogg, G Mortimer, V Cardwell, F Baker, R Elliott, J Slater, W Taylor.
