Drugs have permeated every level of society. A North Yorkshire school cleaner sold cannabis to pupils, a court was told yesterday.
In another case, a York drugs smuggler was jailed for importing £158,000 of the same drug.
Meanwhile, sports internationals, pop stars and even a Blue Peter presenter are revealed to be drug users.
This is hardly a good example for impressionable youngsters.
Anti-drugs tsar Keith Hellawell, who today set tough new targets to cut drug use, knows he faces a huge task.
He needs all our support.
We must not give up in the war against drugs.
