Former England international Jonathan Plaxton was top man in the Yorkshire Amateur championship at The York Golf Club.
The York Union of Golf Clubs' coveted title had several times before eluded Plaxton, but the Fulford GC star finally pinned down the crown at a Strensall circuit yesterday lashed by gusting winds.
Plaxton put together rounds of 76 and 74 for a ten-over-par 150 total, one ahead of second-placed David Watkinson (The York). He shot rounds of 78 and 73, while third place went to Matthew Kelly (Fulford), who posted scores of 77 and 74.
Fourth was Kirkbymoorside GC's Andrew Holmes on 152 (79, 73).
The Seward Trophy for juniors also held at The York on the same day was captured by 12-year-old Heworth GC member Matthew Lord. Playing off a 16 handicap he fired an 83 gross for a 67 nett.
Curtis Cup ace Fiona Brown of Heswall on Merseyside lifted the English Ladies' Close Amateur championship at Ganton GC, where she beat England international Kerry Smith of Waterlooville 2 and 1 in the 18-hole final.
