Premiership stars from Leeds United are to honour York City stalwart Andy McMillan.

The UEFA Cup qualifiers have agreed to send a representative side to face York City at Bootham Cresent on Wednesday, July 21, as part of the right back's testimonial celebrations. Testimonial organiser Graham Bradbury has been in touch with United's reserve team coach Steve Beaglehole to arrange the game.

Beaglehole said: "We are delighted to help Andy, who has been such a good servant to York City and because of the good relationship we have generated with York City this past season when the clubs arranged two behind-closed-doors friendlies to accomodate Leeds United on both occasions."

Leeds boss David O'Leary has a shopping list of four players this summer, so some of them could feature in the McMillan game alongside some of United's household names.

About 350 people attended McMillan's testimonial dinner at York Racecourse last night, including several members of the 1992-93 promotion winning side, among them Dean Kiely.

There was a surprise in store for goalkeeper Kiely, now of Bury. He was presented with the Evening Press-Tap and Spile player of the year award he won in 1996.

He was unable to collect it at the original presentation three years ago because he was having trials with Plymouth, but Kiely, who flew in from his honeymoon from Las Vegas to attend last night's event got his belated award.

This year's winner was Richard Cresswell, who also scooped the player of the year award from subscribers of 'There's only One Arthur Bottom', the City supporters' e-mail newsletter which circulates round the world via the internet.

Forest net York pair

Nottingham Forest may have been relegated, but they have scored a major high for York teenage footballers Andrew Haskins and Chris Kamara.

Fifteen-year-old Haskins has netted a national trial after improving his game while on Forest's books as a junior.

The Canon Lee School pupil, a regular with Forest's under-16s and under-17s side as a central midfielder or winger, today travelled to Lilleshall for trials for the England under-15s' squad.

Rawcliffe-based Haskins was only nine-years-old when he first attended York City's centre of excellence. Now aged 15, he was snapped up by Forest last year.

He has shown such improvement at the City Ground he is close to gaining scholarship terms at Forest's academy.

Kamara, also 15, has just signed a five-year contract with Forest after impressing their management team last season. Formerly a York City junior, the Millthorpe School pupil will play with Forest's junior sides during the next three years and, if both parties are in agreement, he will then begin a two-year apprenticeship.

Acomb-based Kamara is a right back like his father, Alan, who played for the Minstermen in 1979 and later starred for Scarborough. But he was not getting a regular run in his preferred position at City so opted to move further afield.

And his father is not disappointed that Chris sees his future away from Bootham Crescent. He said: "I think if an opportunity arises you have to grab it with both hands."

Kamara was also offered terms by Bryan Robson's Middlesbrough but was impressed with the friendliness and set-up at the City Ground.
