Young Bigwig, beaten by his stablemate Redoubtable at Thirsk last Saturday, is napped to go one better at Ayr tomorrow.
Trained at Stillington near Easingwold by David Chapman, whose horses are in splendid form at present, Young Bigwig bids for the St Vincent High Income Handicap and is fancied to take all the beating under Paul Fessey.
It is somewhat ironic that Young Bigwig, having beaten 16 rivals at Thirsk, should come unstuck only at the hand of his stable-companion. At the line, he finished two lengths behind Redoubtable, which was a solid effort, especially from a fairly poor draw.
Over the same distance tomorrow, and running off the same handicap mark, Young Bigwig can get back on top.
Sweet Sorrow can open her winning account in the Greig Middleton ISA Maiden Stakes.
Chris Wall's filly, placed on her last six starts, did not enjoy much luck at Newmarket last time when meeting trouble in running before finishing a half-length second to Broughtons Error in a 20-runner handicap. Compensation should be forthcoming tomorrow.
Niagara will take plenty of catching in the Greig Middleton PEP Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Placed in both his starts, Mark Tompkins' juvenile did not enjoy the run of the race when chasing home Brave Burt at Carlisle on his latest outing. This step up to six furlongs should suit him better.
A 6lb penalty may not be enough to anchor recent winner Lady Rockstar in the Greig Middleton Stockbrokers Cup, while recent Newcastle winner Linea-G looks good for the Greig Middleton Portfolio Charity Stakes. The latter is trained by Mary Reveley, who yesterday at Kelso sent out her 100th winner over jumps this season, the third time she has achieved the century.
At Catterick, Card Games should come up trumps in the opening Stapleton Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes.
There was much to like about the debut effort of Ian Balding's juvenile at Salisbury, where she finished a two lengths third to Fairy Gem. Likely to have benefited form that experience, Card Games is fancied to have the edge this time under Kevin Darley.
Derek Shaw has his horses in sparkling form, as was evidenced last Friday when the Averham trainer sent out three winners.
Statoyork, who followed-up on Sunday at Ripon, turns out again in the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery Sprint Handicap and is selected to add to Shaw's ever-increasing scoresheet.
The Calderprint Maiden Stakes looks an ideal opportunity for Sun Hat to open her winning account.
