Sarah Wilkinson is keeping athletics success in the family.
The daughter of former Great Britain middle-distance runner and sub-four minute miler Walter Wilkinson has just won her first county athletics championship. Sarah, 15, of Nunburnholme, near Pocklington, won the Women's Under-17 300m hurdle title at the East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire championships, held at Scunthorpe.
Sarah, formerly a pupil at Woldgate School but now studying at Beverley's Langcroft School, claimed her title in a time of 49.2 sec - just .1 sec outside her own personal best.
She later finished fourth in the 300m race and her success comes despite this being Sarah's first season competing at under-17 level.
But there was still more for the Wilkinsons, pictured right, to celebrate.
Walter, who used to compete internationally at 800m and 1500m and was the first British track star under the age of 20 to run a four-minute mile, took a bronze medal in men's open age 800m event - at the age of 54. He is currently gearing up for the
World Masters' Championships, to be held in Gateshead later this year.
Both father and daughter run out of the Hull Achilles Athletic Club.
