Since I wrote to express York Natural Environment Trust's (YNET) frustration at the difficulty it has in getting satisfactory responses from City of York Council (May 12) we have now received responses to some of the issues mentioned.
Happily, the issue of pollution of the Ouse with contaminated water from the Northern Gateway site seems likely to be resolved. The council has now accepted YNET's advice that systems must be installed to clean up the water before discharge and contacted the Environment Agency for advice.
We have met with council officers and put them in contact with organisations, such as the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, which have experience in this field.
This is exactly how we would have liked things to be from the outset. YNET would much rather expend its energies on finding solutions than fighting problems.
We thank the officers involved and hope that from this beginning, more co-operation will grow.

Chairman, YNET,
