Following an article on the Radio 4 Today programme on May 14 about school furniture, you may be interested to know that the new Park Grove School will have the ergonomic furniture that was described.
The desks have sloping tops, which the Victorians recognised as being the most comfortable to write on. The seats have a small degree of movement so that children keep a straight back whether leaning forward to work or sitting back to listen. The furniture is height adjustable so it can be matched to the child using it rather than an 'average' size. The children certainly found the furniture comfortable to use when we had some to try.
Although it is significantly more expensive than standard classroom chairs and tables I expect it to be money well spent on the future health of children attending Park Grove.
