York's skipper Ian Dews is delighted with the progress being made by the younger players at the club.

RARE EXIT: Simon Mason is bowled out for the first time this season against Goole last week

Teenager Simon Mason has scored 114 runs without being dismissed in two innings in the Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County premier league as well as hammering 88 against Goole in the NCA Cup last Sunday.

Dews feels that Stephen Piercy, the Joe Lumb skipper who played for Yorkshire U16s last summer, also showed great promise scoring 32 on his senior team debut last Sunday. He is the cousin of Martin Piercy and hails from Huby.

Dews is also pleased that York have been able to bowl sides out even though they don't have a genuine quick bowler.

The skipper has opened the bowling himself and taken six and four wicket hauls against Rotherham and Castleford with his off-spinners.

Three of the York side that beat Goole in the cup last Sunday are unavailable tomorrow when York play host to Sheffield Collegiate in a league game but the absentees return for York's trip to Harrogate on Sunday.

Julian Ramsey is busy with exams, James Lupton is moving house to Manchester and Shaun Gorman is unavailable.

Their places are taken by Paul Daniels, big hitting Richard Musgrave and new signing from Hull, Colin McLocklan.

Ramsey and Lupton return for the Harrogate game on Sunday - postponed from last Saturday - so Daniels and McLocklan step down. What is expected to be a full strength Harrogate side visits Hull tomorrow.

North Marine Road is taken over by a York Senior League game tomorrow in which Scarborough's second team entertain Dunnington, 'Boro staging their Yorkshire League match against Barnsley on Sunday.

Opening bowler Mark Wells returns to the Scarborough line-up and Australian Brad Wigney also returns because, as an overseas player, he was ineligible to play against Clifton Alliance last Sunday.

Ashley Lyth, who scored 40 last week, retains his place, Gary Jones giving way.
